The 6th National Ahi Evran Medicine Student Symposium, organized annually by the students of the Faculty of Medicine at Kırşehir Ahi Evran University, was held on June 9, 2023. The symposium took place at KAEU Ahi Evran Congress and Cultural Center, specifically in the 15 Temmuz Milli İrade Hall. The event was attended by Kırşehir Governor Hüdayar Mete Buhara, Rector of KAEU Prof. Dr. Vatan Karakaya, Provincial Director of Health Dr. Ertan Değirmencioğlu, Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kasım Karahocagil, guests, academic and administrative staff, and a large number of students.

The opening speeches of the 6th National Ahi Evran Medicine Student Symposium were delivered by the respective presidents of the Bozkırın Tabipleri Student Community, Intern Dr. Betül Kalafat, the Scientific Research Community, Intern Dr. Onur Kaya, and the Ahi Physicians Development and Thought Community, Intern Dr. Sümeyra Aslan. The community presidents expressed their great honor in organizing the 6th National Ahi Evran Medical Student Symposium and stated their commitment to benefitting from the symposium in the best possible way. They also expressed their wishes for the successful completion of the symposium and expressed gratitude to everyone who assisted them during the organization and planning stages.

Vice Rector Karahocagil: "We Have Decided the Theme of This Year's Symposium as 'Being a Doctor in Disasters' "

After the speeches of the community presidents, Vice-Rector and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kasım Karahocagil, took the floor and delivered a speech. Karahocagil mentioned that the Faculty of Medicine was established in 2016 and has been organizing the National Ahi Evran Medicine Student Symposium since its inception. Emphasizing the significance of such symposiums in enhancing students' knowledge and skills, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kasım Karahocagil stated, "Inspired by the recent earthquake disaster in our country, we have chosen the theme of 'Being a Doctor in Disasters' for this year's symposium." Continuing his speech, Karahocagil discussed the quality efforts of our university, highlighting the Integrated Quality Management System (IQMS) that has become the hallmark of our institution and is now in the marketing phase. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kasım Karahocagil also noted that Kırşehir Ahi Evran University is among the universities that have obtained 5-Year Full Accreditation and mentioned that they have submitted an application on behalf of our university for the EFQM Excellence Award, which is another stage of the quality process. In conclusion, Karahocagil expressed his wishes for the successful outcome of the symposium and expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to its organization.

Rector Karakaya: "We Aim to Train Physicians who can Touch Souls while Seeking Solutions for the Malfunctions of Bodies"

Following the speech of Vice-Rector of KAEU and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kasım Karahocagil, the Rector of KAEU Prof. Dr. Vatan Karakaya also delivered a speech. Rector Karakaya expressed that humans were the most challenging beings to nurture in the world and emphasized that during their most difficult and critical times, they always had physicians by their side. He stated that the 6th National Ahi Evran Medicine Student Symposium had become a tradition of KAEU Faculty of Medicine, and he emphasized their belief that students would enhance their knowledge and skills by discussing and examining information both theoretically and practically during this symposium. Rector Karakaya said: "Symposiums, workshops, and similar events are areas of discussion that possess academic competence in debating scientific knowledge," and expressed their satisfaction with turning this into a tradition and having students participate in this process and engage in such discussions. Rector Karakaya explained that competent academics in various fields and disciplines prepared students for the 6th International Ahi Evran Medicine Student Symposium throughout a semester, enabling them to reach a certain level of competence. He thanked all the academics of KAEU who contributed to this process. Rector Karakaya, stating that they aimed to train Ahi physicians in the land of Ahi Evran, expressed the following during his speech: "While seeking solutions for the malfunctions of bodies, we also desire to train physicians who can touch souls. Today, seeing this enthusiasm in our prospective physicians makes us happy. I firmly believe that this symposium will provide our students with significant competence in their academic development." In conclusion, Rector Karakaya expressed his gratitude to everyone who had contributed to the organization and planning of the symposium and expressed his wishes for its success.

Governor Buhara: "It is Crucial to Serve in Disaster Areas"

Following the speech of Rector of KAEU Prof. Dr. Vatan Karakaya, Governor Hüdayar Mete Buhara of Kırşehir delivered a speech. In his speech, Buhara provided detailed information about his assignment in İskenderun district of Hatay during the earthquake that occurred on February 6, 2023, with its epicenter in Pazarcık, Kahramanmaraş. Governor Buhara explained that he was present in İskenderun during the disaster to ensure coordination in all kinds of operations. He emphasized the significance of medical students taking part in disaster areas. Governor Hüdayar Mete Buhara expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to the symposium and expressed his wishes for its success.

Following the opening speeches, the first session, chaired by Prof. Dr. Kemal Özyurt, a faculty member of KAEU Faculty of Medicine, commenced. In this session, Dr. Murat Kadir Topcu, the Coordinator of Disaster and Emergency Medical Aid (AID), delivered a presentation on "Medical Rescue and Volunteering in Disasters," Dr. İsmail Bulut, the Deputy Chief Physician of Ankara Education and Research Hospital, discussed "Hospital Services in Disasters," and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Enes Gökler, the Deputy General Director of Public Health at the Ministry of Health, presented on "Public Health Services in Disasters."

Following the end of the first session, the 6th National Ahi Evran Medicine Student Symposium continued with other sessions in different halls.
