The “From Ahi Evran’s Heritage to the Future: Kırşehir Science Festival” project, led by Kırşehir Ahi Evran University and supported by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) under the 4007 Science Festivals Support Program was held under the auspices of the Kırşehir Governorship. The festival’s opening ceremony took place on October 2, 2025, at the Neşet Ertaş Hall of the Ahi Evran Congress and Culture Center, with the participation of Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Şimşek, university staff, and students.
Until October 4, 2025, the science festival will offer a series of workshops, exhibitions, and interactive sessions. The event aims to increase scientific awareness in Kırşehir, promote interest in science and technology, develop participants’ scientific thinking skills, and support interdisciplinary learning. The project offers 14 different thematic workshops, including Archaeology and Cultural Heritage, STEM, Science Experiments, Engineering Applications, Carbon Footprint, Financial Literacy, Creative Drama, Health and Hygiene, Anatomy, Robotics Coding, Computer Technologies, Sports Activities, Agricultural Activities, as well as Dance and Mind Games for children.
"From Ahi Evran’s Heritage to the Future: Kırşehir Science Festival" began with an official opening program. The first speech was made by project coordinator Research Assistant Gamze Saatçi from the Faculty of Health Sciences, who gave detailed information about the event. Saatçi stated that the project’s goal is to connect science with the public and to conduct experimental and practical activities in the workshops. “I hope the light of science will spread from our city to the entire country,” Saatçi said, expressing her gratitude to everyone who supported the project.
Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Şimşek highlighted the university’s commitment to engaging students in scientific activities and pointed out the value of realizing such unique projects. He pointed out that universities have a vital duty in the development of science and noted Kırşehir Ahi Evran University’s dedicated support for research and innovation. Prof. Dr. Şimşek said he was pleased that students are actively involved in R&D processes and highlighted how such events significantly contribute to their knowledge and skills. He also mentioned TÜBİTAK’s support for student projects and added that the acceptance rate of TÜBİTAK projects by Kırşehir Ahi Evran University students continues to increase. Prof. Dr. Şimşek went on to describe the details of the festival, mentioning 51 workshops and 33 participating teams, and expressed hope for many more science festivals with broader student engagement. He thanked everyone for their efforts and congratulated the students involved.
After the opening ceremony, rotocol members visited the stands in the event area, gathering information from the booth attendants. The “From Ahi Evran’s Heritage to the Future: Kırşehir Science Festival" will welcome science enthusiasts at the Ahi Evran Congress and Culture Center of Kırşehir Ahi Evran University through October 4, 2025.
