Organized by the Sustainability Coordination Office of the Center for Environmental Issues Research and Application, in collaboration with the Environmental Student Society, the Sustainable Development Student Society, the Kırşehir Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports, the Kırşehir Nursing Home Directorate, and numerous units of our university, an event titled “Zero Waste-Themed Exhibition and Workshops” was held as part of the 20th-anniversary celebrations and in conjunction with International Zero Waste Day on March 30. Held on March 30, 2026 at the university’s Central Library, the event was attended by the university’s rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kasım Karahocagil, the general secretary, Asst. Prof. Dr. Hüseyin İlter, academic and administrative staff and students.
Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kasım Karahocagil emphasized the importance of these events, stating that Ahilik is not merely a commercial system, but a time-honored philosophy that teaches us to care for all living and non-living beings, as well as to respect nature. “Seeing the efforts of our young people fills us with pride. We will continue to support such activities at all times. Ahilik requires environmental sensitivity; caring for all beings is a very valuable legacy of our civilization,” said Prof. Dr. Karahocagil, expressing his gratitude for the work prepared by students and faculty members.
As part of the event, in addition to an art exhibition created from recycled materials by the Neşet Ertaş Faculty of Fine Arts, various works and projects made using recycled materials were presented. Additionally, the event featured a composting workshop, an origami workshop, and hands-on workshops focused on recycling. Through such activities, the goal is to promote the zero-waste approach across the university campus, encourage the revaluation of waste, and strengthen a culture of sustainable living.
