The Ahi Quran Volunteers Student Association organized a conference titled “Vision of Civilization.” Held on May 4, 2026 at the Ahi Evran Congress and Culture Center’s July 15 National Will Hall, the conference was attended by Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kasım Karahocagil, researcher, writer, and academic Yusuf Kaplan, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Musa Özata, deans, directors, academic and administrative staff, and students.
Well-attended conference began with a recitation of the Holy Quran by Mehmet Altuntaş, a student in the preparatory class of the Faculty of Theology. The Faculty of Theology Music Group then performed the Plevne March.
The program then continued with a lecture by researcher, author, and academic Yusuf Kaplan titled “A Vision of Civilization.” During his lecture, Kaplan noted that one of the most fundamental problems of our time is “superficiality,” explaining that individuals have developed discourses that appeal only to narrow circles, which negatively impacts the world of ideas. Emphasizing that the processes of modernization and secularization must be addressed free from prejudice, Yusuf Kaplan highlighted the importance of accurately analyzing the current era and continued his speech as follows: “If you cannot recognize the era you live in, you will be defined by it. For societies to build their own futures, they must thoroughly understand the era they are living in. Instead of focusing on the past, question the processes you are experiencing and conduct a comprehensive analysis."
At the end of his speech, Kaplan also commented on the higher education system in Turkey, stating that university education faces serious challenges and arguing that the current situation points to a period of decline in educational quality.
At the conclusion of the conference, Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kasım Karahocagil presented a gift to Researcher-Writer and Academician Yusuf Kaplan in recognition of his contributions to the conference. The conference concluded following a group photo.
